| This little elementary school is by a road, and nestled in the woods in a small, rural town. The traditional equipment-based playground was out back, but the main entrance to the school needed something simple, quiet, and utilizing some of the landscape elements that had previously been installed.
The Natural Playgrounds Company was hired to do a short-term design-build residency that helped students develop a plan they could later build.

The design is a rather neat little pocket park organized around a branching idea, where different design elements sit at the ends of the branch paths.
A main entrance arbor welcomes visitors, and scattered throughout are hand-painted, wooden benches. A gaze-ball garden and sitting area, a sand play area, an arbor, several sitting rocks, a waiting area for bus rides, and a new shrubs and trees to complement what was already there, round out this adorable little pocket park, and provide a beautiful view for the adjacent classrooms.
